The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business has extended the Mitchell College of Business鈥檚 global accreditation in business and accounting. The association made the announcement June 28, 2023, following ratification by its Board of Directors.

South is one of 989 institutions across 60 countries and territories to have earned this accreditation in business and one of 194 institutions to maintain supplemental accreditation for their accounting programs.

鈥淭he Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business congratulates each institution on their achievement,鈥 said Stephanie M. Bryant, global executive vice president and chief accreditation officer. 鈥淓very school has demonstrated a focus on excellence in all areas, including teaching, research, curricula development and student learning. The intense peer-review process exemplifies their commitment to quality business education.鈥

Achieving accreditation is a process of rigorous internal focus, engagement with an assigned mentor and peer-reviewed evaluation. During this multi-year path, schools focus on developing and implementing a plan to align with the association鈥檚 accreditation standards. These standards require excellence in areas relating to strategic management and innovation; student, faculty, and staff as active participants; learning and teaching; and academic and professional engagement.

鈥淭his achievement is yet another reminder of the tremendous collective effort we enjoy in the Mitchell College of Business,鈥 said Dr. Alvin Williams, interim dean. 鈥淭his is a reflection of the sustained commitment by so many team members to ensure that we stay on track to be our best each and every day.鈥

To achieve accounting accreditation, an institution must first earn its business accreditation. Then, in addition to developing and implementing a mission-driven plan to satisfy the business accreditation quality standards, accounting accreditation requires the satisfaction of a supplemental set of standards specific to the discipline and profession of accounting. Once accreditation is achieved, each institution participates in a five-year continuous-improvement peer review to maintain high quality and extend its accreditation.

The Mitchell College of Business has been accredited since 1976.
