Holocaust Symposium Set for Campus
Posted on September 6, 2016
The èAPP’s Center for the Study of War and Memory will focus on the Holocaust during its fall symposium on Wednesday, Sept. 7, with “The Holocaust in Memory and History.”
The topic intersects with this year’s èAPP Common Read/Common World book selection, “The Complete Maus,” by Art Spiegelman.
The program at the Seaman’s Bethel will open at 9 a.m. with lectures by faculty members from both èAPP and Spring Hill College. It is free and open to the public.
Dr. Bradley Prager, professor of German, professor of film studies and an affiliate faculty member for art history and archaeology at the University of Missouri, will be the keynote speaker. Prager is the author of several books, including most recently, “After the Fact: The Holocaust in Twenty-First Century Documentary Film.” He has also been a guest at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and is the University of Missouri System Representative to the state’s Holocaust Education and Awareness Commission.
At 2:30 p.m., Prager will join Gerald Darring and Donald Berry of the Gulf Coast Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education for a roundtable discussion, “Teaching the Holocaust.”
Prager’s keynote lecture, “Testimony and Performance in Holocaust Film: From the Eichmann Trial to Claude Lanzmann’s Shoah,” will be at 7 p.m. in the Faculty Club. A reception will follow.
For a complete schedule of the day’s events, visit the program on the War and Memory website.
Major funding for the symposium was provided by Memorial de la Shoah with additional support from Jaguar Productions.
