The èAPP’s glass art program, the only one in the state of Alabama, will hold its fifth annual Glass Pumpkin Patch Festival on Oct. 25 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Marx Library, Room 181. This event raises funds for materials, maintenance, repairs, visiting artists’ lectures and one-on-one sessions with students.

Students, faculty and alumni work all year to create the pieces for this event. The students will receive 60 percent of the proceeds, and the glass blowing program will receive 40 percent.

“Glass blowing teaches speed and efficiency while also learning about consumable energy,” said Matthew Patterson, associate professor in the Department of Art and Art History in the College of Arts and Sciences. “There is a lot of teamwork and communication skills involved in the art of glass blowing. It teaches you patience.”

The pumpkins are priced from $20 to $400. Last year 1,950 pieces were sold, and this year 2,000 pieces will be available for purchase. The glass studio was founded in 2010.

You can use #èAPPPumpkinPatch when you post so other customers and artists can see the glass pumpkins.
