The Beta Theta Chapter of Chi Omega Women鈥檚 Fraternity at the University of South Alabama recently raised $23,191 at its 49th annual Songfest event.

The fundraising event was held in the 猫咪社区APP Mitchell Center Arena and helped raise money for the local Make-A-Wish Foundation, which is Chi Omega鈥檚 nationally recognized official philanthropy. The organization鈥檚 2014 goal exceeded the 2013 year鈥檚 goal by $310. In the past four years, 猫咪社区APP鈥檚 Chi Omega has raised more than $80,000 for the local Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Songfest is a singing and dancing competition hosted by Chi Omega each year to raise money specifically for their philanthropy. Any organization on campus interested in participating in the competition creates a team of five and registers to participate. Teams are separated into three categories, to include sororities, fraternities, and independent organizations. Songfest included 15 performing groups and roughly 600 attendees.

"The Beta Theta Chapter of Chi Omega should be extremely proud of meeting their fund raising goal,鈥 said Landry Underwood, coordinator of Greek Life. 鈥淭heir dedication to the

Make-A-Wish Foundation has been proven each time they raise funds through philanthropy events like Songfest. I am extremely proud of the women of the chapter and the South Alabama student body for contributing to such an important cause."

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wish of a child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition in the United States. Funds are raised and donated directly to support the mission of granting wishes to Alabama children with volunteers across the state working directly with the foundation.
